Kickbacks: Zombie Mode
Let me begin by saying I am not, in fact, receiving any kickbacks for writing about these projects. If, however, someone wants to toss me some coin for featuring their project I’m not going to complain.
Once again I find myself backing and writing about a Zombie project on Kickstarter. At this rate zombies are so popular I’m not entirely sure we’d know a real zombie uprising until it was far far too late. It’s like vampires. If vampires started cropping up all the young ladies would be flocking to be their boyfriends instead of ripping legs off chairs to stake them with. What’s wrong with this world…
The Kickstarter project discribes itself as “A non-stop, Metroidvania action-platformer, with a hint of dungeon exploration, some zombies,and a wearable, reanimated, sharks head.” I don’t know about you, but that’s more or less all I need to hear. I’m a huge fan of the old school Metroid and Castelvania games or, as they are commonly lumped together today, the Metroidvania genre. I’ve played the demo and it kicked my ass quite thoroughly. I’m not really sure where the side scrolling exploration/stuff collection part comes in because I haven’t been able to get out of the first room, but from the pictures and videos it looks like it’s in there just beyond where my meager skills can reach.
The game boasts over forty different weapons as well as over twenty new faces to replace the one ripped off and eating by a zombie at the games beginning. It is unclear if the faces actually have any effect, but one photo shows the character with a sharks head and the mouth is wide open awaiting a tasty zombie falling from the platform above. This game started as mobile game but the Kickstarter is to allow the maker to turn it into a bigger more robust experience beyond a simple never ending slog of zombies to see how long you can survive.
