This week I’ve decided to put my money behind The DV60 Electric Violin.

The What of It: As you can see from the picture above, the DV60 is just about the most bad ass violin ever designed. The Kickstarter goal is to take the prototype and create the first edition run of these beautiful instruments.

The Who of It: The projects creator is a man by the name of Richard Roland. This guy has been creating awesome instruments and doing other design work for around thirty years. He certainly knows his stuff. If you’re interested in find out more about him, his company, and his products take a look at Roland Research and Development Co. and Tonal Musical Instruments Co. both sites have plenty of pictures and descriptions of the work he’s done in the past and it’s all pretty impressive.

The Why of It: I took one look at this magnificent instrument and it made me want to take up playing violin/viola again. Granted I haven’t touched either in almost twenty years, but it’s never too late to get back on the horse. It didn’t take much to sell me on this one. I just wish I had the money to buy one, even though I know I’d probably never play the thing. If nothing else it would make an excellent show piece.
